Naomi Haile, Executive Director
Naomi was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and came to the United States for college. She has a B.A. in business administration and an M.A. in Information Technology/ Telecommunications management from the University of Maryland. Naomi had worked for various Telecom and IT companies as well as Allscripts when she shifted into Healthcare IT managing the implementation of the Electronic medical record systems for different hospitals. She is married to Zelalem Ashiny. They have two biological daughters and twin sons recently adopted from Ethiopia. Because of their adoption journey, they felt led to find a local solution to the plight of the orphans in Ethiopia. Working alongside local NGOs, the Ethiopian government and many volunteers both in the United States and Ethiopia, she has been the catalyst to the founding of Orphan Care Ethiopia. Naomi stays active by running (with her husband), swimming, and doing yoga and weight training. They love to travel most especially in the Caribbean and many countries in Europe.
Mark Gottlieb, Chairman
Mark Gottlieb has been an entrepreneur most of his life. His first major company was DesignTech International which produced over $125 million in consumer electronic products. Mostly automotive and telephone accessories. His last company was LogicMark, LLC which produced a line of Personal Emergency Response System for the home healthcare market. This company received the honor of making the INC 500/5000 awards two years in a row for its record growth before he sold the company in 2011.
Mark has earned two masters degrees from Stanford University. One in Engineering Management (IE) and the other in Product Design (ME). After graduate school, Mark worked as a consultant for SRI International and taught as an Associate professor at George Washington University. Mark is a serial inventor and has been awarded 27 US patents and numerous foreign patents. Mark is active in the angel investing area supporting and mentoring several start-ups. He is on the advisory board at George Mason University as well as several other board positions with several companies and charities. He is also active in the community. Mark lives in Fairfax Station with his wife Sharon. They enjoy traveling the world to remote regions and they have four children and four grandchildren.
Rebecca Patterson, Treasurer
Rebecca D. Patterson, PhD, is the Associate Director of the Center for Security Studies and Security Studies Program at Georgetown University and Professor of the Practice of International Affairs in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. A retired U.S. Army strategist officer with more than 22 years of experience, she served in overseas assignments in Thailand, Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Prior to retiring from the military, Rebecca was the Deputy Director of the Office of Peace Keeping, Sanctions, and Counterterrorism where she oversaw operations in Africa and the Middle East. Rebecca lives in Arlington, Virginia and enjoys spending time with her family. She is an active volunteer in the community serving as a special education parent liaison in the local schools. In addition, she is an active volunteer in the church, most recently serving on a mission trip to Ethiopia
Zelalem Ashiny, Director
Zelalem Ashiny, MD is an internal medicine physician working in the neuroscience department at Inova Fairfax Hospital. As a native of Ethiopia, he has been involved in charitable organizations and involved in committees to build a state-of-the-art hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Having adopted two boys from Ethiopia, has led to Zelalem’s passionate care and interest in the orphan crisis. He has served by going on medical mission trips through McLean Bible Church to Ethiopia and other countries. Now living in Fairfax, Virginia with his wife Naomi and four children, Zee enjoys outdoor running, spending time with family and traveling.
Paul Patterson, Director
Paul E. Patterson, MD, PhD, PE, has a heart for children everywhere and is currently a Pediatrician in the U.S. Army. He has more than 22 years of experience in the military, serving overseas assignments in Korea and Iraq. Paul lives in Arlington, Virginia and enjoys spending time with his family. He is an active volunteer in the community for children with disabilities, having served as the Chair for the Arlington Country Special Education Advisory Committee for the last several years. In addition, he is active in the church, most recently serving on a mission trip to Ethiopia.
Allyn Jones, Director
Allyn Jones has traveled the world with her husband and his career from Europe to the Middle East and North Africa. She greatly enjoys volunteering and interacting with people of all cultures, serving and showing hospitality as the opportunity arises. She had a thriving business teaching people how to save photos and memories while her 3 boys were in high school and college. Over the years she has ministered to women and leads a marriage ministry with her husband on communication and conflict resolution. She loves to be with her 6 grandkids, to read, to train her dog, to do CrossFit, and to ride a tandem bike with her husband Phil. In earlier days she trained horses. Allyn’s focus is touching others in need through her church, McLean Bible.
Phillipe Jones, Director & Secretary
Philippe has a B.A. from George Washington University and an M.A. from the University of MD in political science. After a career of 25 years in the Government and 20 years in private business as President and Founder of his company, Philippe has focused his attention on the orphans of Ethiopia. He is passionate about the mission of whomever he is serving whether it be Government, private business or ministry. During his private times he bikes, plays with his 6 grandkids and loves watching the history channel. He achieved much in his tennis career, not only playing at the top US Regional levels but also in Europe and he was head coach at George Washington University. He lives in Virginia with his wife Allyn and attends Mclean Bible Church.
